answered on 24-Aug-25 13:53
as we are entering optional deliverable fwd contract we buy from inter bank and we hold dollar so we can sell the same dollar on execution so the canellation loss will be diff of 65.99 and 66.84 but why we are selling to inter bank again and then we wont hold any dollars so how we can sell to customer at 65.99 instead of buy at spot 65.99 and sell customer 65.99

Stock lending schemes
AFM
answered on 24-Aug-25 21:01
In this solution the lender of the security (Mr. A) is said to have earned the dividend during the time when he has lent the security to XYZ Ltd. My doubt is isn't the buyer of the shares to whom the short seller (XYZ Ltd) sold shares the current holder of those shares and wont he receive the dividends being the current holder. Would you pls explain why this is so, Sir? If it is Mr. A who should receive the dividend, as told in the question, wouldn't the current holder be at loss. It looks like the dividend Mr. A earns is not what is compensated by Mr. XYZ since in profit calculation of Mr. XYZ it is not considered. Sorry for troubling you sir.

Rate of Interest
AFM
answered on 23-Aug-25 22:42
Sir, how can we get to know that these rates are per annum basis. Some questions are mentioning 6 months LIBOR is X% and the suggested answers are considering it as per annum rate and to compute the interest, they are taking X/2 since it is for 6 months. Similarly, in this question it provides that the rate of interest in day 180 is 4%, in day 360 at 5.1%......... My understanding was this 4% is for next 6 months so no need to do /2 in the rate. How can we understand that this rate is for a year not for 180 days. [Video Time Stamp: 20:17]

Arbitrage
AFM
answered on 23-Aug-25 04:57
Sir, in the sums of arbitrage, we are generally working with one forex rate (there is no bifurcation between bid & ask). But if in the question we are given both the rates, then how do we proceed with the answer. Because, using bid rate or ask rate depends on whether the dealer bank is buying or selling the base currency. And before using any rate, we have to first decide whether we have to sell the currency (bank buys) or we have to buy the currency (bank sells). But we can only decide whether to buy or sell only when we have both the theoretical forward rate & the actual forward rate. Even if we compute both the bid & the ask rate, which rate do we use - do we compare the theoretical & the actual forward bid rates or the ask rates. Please guide regarding this issue.

You have to solve it in both ways i.e Two alternatives to figure which one has arbitrage opportunity It is trial and error

Illustration 30 - Borrowing Decision
AFM
answered on 23-Aug-25 07:25
Sir, in the question it has been asked that what should be the interest rate after 3 months to make the company indifferent between the 3-month & the 6-month borrowing. In the lecture it has been explained that if there is already a 3-month borrowing, then what should be the interest rate if the loan is extended to another 3 months so that the company is indifferent between 3-month & the 6-month borrowing. However, going as per the strict interpretation of the language of the question, it has been asked to compute the interest rate so that the company is indifferent between the 3-month loan & the 6-month loan. This means that the company has options to take a 3-month loan & another 6-month loan, and what should the interest rate during the months 4,5 & 6 of the 6-month loan be so that the ultimate repayment that the company has to make in case of the 3-month loan and this 6-month loan are equal, thus making the company indifferent between them. This is what I am understanding from reading the language of the question. Please guide me regarding this.

No. That is not the meaning it is saying, 3 m + new rate for balance 3 months so that it is equivalent to 6 months Please do not overthink

Interest Rate
AFM
answered on 22-Aug-25 19:19
Sir, I thought from the given interest table each given rate is for amount under limit. Incase of EURO Upto 100000 interest rate is 0.25% and from 1,00,000 to 5,00,000 interest rate is 1.5% and from 5,00,000 to 10,00,000 interest rate is 2%. So I calculated interest like that. Will they mention differently if this was the case? [Video Time Stamp: 05:19]
latest answer
In such case they will mention it specifically that even if deposit is for say 500,000, then for first 100K interst rate is x% and for balance 100-500 K int rate is y%
